LEXINGTON, Neb. -- The Lexington man accused of shooting at police officers in July has been arrested in Texas.

The Lexington Police Department says Jose Covarrubias was arrested in Laredo, Texas while attempting to reenter the U.S. He's accused of shooting at police as they arrived to investigate a disturbance call.

According to the police department, on July 30 just before 1 a.m., police arrived on scene in the 500 block of Oregon Trail Lexington.

Police were informed Covarrubias had a gun, and when police arrived on scene he fired a handgun as a woman was fleeing the house. He also fired at patrol units, hitting one of the vehicles and hitting a nearby residence.

An officer returned fire at Covarrubias.

A young child was treated and released for a minor injury, at Lexington Regional Health Center, for an apparent ricochet.

Covarrubius is being held in Texas while awaiting extradition.
