Although the event officially takes place on Saturday, Lincoln Public Schools took time out on Friday to celebrate Read Across America Day.
The nationwide observance coincides with Dr. Seuss' Birthday, something Pershing Elementary is recognizing by displaying Seuss memorabilia, including a multi-media project featuring Suess' "Lorax" character.
Ameritas participated by sending employees to the schools to read to second graders. At Pershing, the book of choice was "Glamorous Glasses," which was selected to emphasize the importance of vision health.
Pershing's celebration continues at the school Friday evening with a program honoring Dr. Seuss starting at 6pm at the school which is located at 6402 Judson Street in Lincoln.
Another way Lincolnites celebrated the importance of reading, was through an event at Gateway Mall. The gathering featured books read to children by media personalities from around the city including our own Chad Silber and Rusty Dawkins, who chose a Seuss book to read to the children in attendance.
