Police say a Lincoln man sped away from a traffic stop, leading officers on a chase.
Just after midnight, Lincoln Police stopped a silver Honda Civic for failing to stop at a sign near 20th and Washington Streets. When the officer approached the car, it sped off.
According to Captain Michon Morrow, the pursuit lasted about two minutes before being called off. At one point, the driver struck a tree near 24th and Euclid Streets but kept driving. Then police say the car blew a tire, but kept going.
Morrow said the pursuit was terminated because of the reckless manner, 18-year-old William Dimas, was driving. Moments after the pursuit was called off, officers found the Civic at the intersection of 22nd and B Streets where it had become disabled on the curb.
Morrow said Dimas and a 17-year-old girl were taken into custody.
Police say officers found methamphatamine, marijuana and drug parahpanalia in the car.
Dimas was cited for Driving Under Suspension, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphanalia, and Willful Reckless Driving. Dimas was lodged in jail for Felony Fleeing to Avoid Arrest and Possession of Methamphatamine.
The 17-year-old girl was taken to the youth detention center on an unrelated court order.
