A Lincoln man who was hit by a car Wednesday is now facing charges of sexual assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
Lancaster County Sheriff deputies responded to Branched Oak Lake early Wednesday morning to investigate an assault involving a car.
LSO said a group of people were at the lake when 28-year-old Sean Phillips and 22-year-old Justin Garman started to fight. Garman then got in his car with 20-year-old Emily Young and tried to hit Phillips.
Garman and Young tried to hit Phillips three times, until he was thrown over the car.
Garman was arrested for second degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. Young was arrested for accessory to a felony.
Phillips was taken to a hospital, but quickly released with minor injuries.
Through the investigation, deputies say the victim of the assault, Phillips, sexually assault a 14-year-old girl. They say she was reported as a runaway from Lincoln.
Deputies say the sexual assault happened at Branched Oak Lake just before Phillips was assaulted with the car. They do not believe that the assault with the car was in retaliation for the sexual assault.
LSO says Phillips also sexually assaulted the girl on Tuesday, May 20th at Phillips’ home in Lincoln.
Phillips is a registered sex offender. He was convicted of attempted 1st degree sexual assault on August 29th, 2006 in Douglas County, Nebraska. He was released from the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services on July 10th, 2012.
Phillips was arrested Friday morning for three counts of First Degree Sexual Assault of a Child and two counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
