Lincoln Man Sentenced for Child Sexual Assault Charges

A Lincoln man will spend more time in prison for the sexual assault of two children.

Twenty-eight-year-old Jay Gilmore was sentenced to 4 to 5 years on two separate third degree Sexual Assault of a Child charges.

Police say he inappropriately touched two young girls who are familiar to him.

Police said Gilmore called police himself concerning an incident which occurred at least three weeks prior.

The sentence will run consecutively to a federal child porn charge he's already been convicted of.

In total, he'll serve 13 to 16 years in prison.

The judge gave Gilmore credit for 189 days served.

In court Wednesday, Gilmore told the judge he's genuinely sorry for what he did.

The federal sentence stemmed from an incident back in 2010. On October 2, while conducting an undercover operation, an investigator with the Nebraska State Patrol identified a computer that was able to access child pornography images from computers that were using file sharing software publicly available on the Internet through Peer-to-Peer Network.

The investigation determined that the Internet Protocol address was assigned to an individual’s residence at which Gilmore lived.

In November of 2010, Nebraska State Patrol agents went to the residence. Gilmore admitted to downloading child pornography through a Limewire program and from internet web sites, and gave written consent to the agents to seize items of computer equipment.

A forensic examination of the computers and related equipment revealed approximately 500 videos and digital images of child pornography.
