Lincoln Police Looking for Grocery Store Pick-Pocketer

A grocery store pickpocketing turned into a big headache for the victim. It's an unsolved crime Lincoln Police are hoping you know something about.

It's a story we first told you about earlier this month. We're learning more about a woman who Police say stole a wallet from a purse while the victim was shopping at Trader Joe's in South Lincoln.

"The victim later recalled that at some point while shopping inside the store, an Asian female was asking her questions regarding different produce items," said LPD Officer Shane Winterbauer.

At the same time, someone else was snatching her wallet from her purse. When the victim got to the checkout line and noticed it missing, the criminals were long gone. Within an hour and a half, her card was used to buy an Apple Macbook Pro and an iPad at Computer Hardware Inc, and several hair products at Master Cuts inside Gateway Mall. She also went to Best Buy Mobile.

"The suspect attempted to purchase an additional iPad 4 as well as an iPod," said Winterbauer. "The credit card was declined and the suspect left."

It's a type of case Lincoln Police see all too often: crimes of opportunity. But there are ways to protect yourself when you're at the grocery store.

"A lot of women do carry their purses inside the shopping cart and if you're going to do that, make sure that the flap is closed," said Winterbauer. "I suggest not having it in the cart itself. If you're going to walk away or look away, have it on your shoulder."
