LINCOLN, Neb. -- With the start of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln fall semester and seven home football games on the schedule, an increase in tailgating and weekend parties is expected. Often, these social events are attended by students who are less than 21 years of age. Underage and binge drinking can be associated with these events. The Lincoln Police Department's Northwest Team has coordinated an underage drinking project in an effort to increase awareness and impact illegal behaviors.

From August 30, 2014 through September 27, 2014, uniformed and plainclothes officers will patrol the North Bottoms neighborhood. Officers will focus on party disturbances, underage drinking and impaired driving. This increased enforcement is funded by a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
