LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Lincoln Tennis Buddies were selected to be part of a community-wide art project.
Cathy Harrington volunteers with the Tennis Buddies and was one of 19 artists selected to participate in the "Doorways to Hope" project.
The goal of the project was to turn a door into a piece of art so the group chose to decorate tennis rackets which would be used as flowers. The theme of the door was Garden of Faith, Hope, and Love.
"Doorways to Hope" is a collaboration between the Hildegard Center for the Arts and Habitat for Humanity.
The door will be displayed somewhere in the City of Lincoln, Memorial Day through Oct. 1. It will then be auctioned off in October at an event at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
The Lincoln Tennis Buddies program is a partnership of athletes with intellectual disabilities and tennis enthusiasts in the Lincoln area.
It is a 6-year-old program which currently includes 19 special athletes and 25 volunteers.
