"She shouldn't have been drinking and driving. It's the law."
It may be a 13 year old car, but the owner has had it less than a month. Now, she will have to find another one after a drunk driver totals it.
Just after 2:00 Saturday morning, Lincoln Police were called to the intersection of 20th and P Streets for a reported hit and run accident.
Officers at the scene arrived to find a 1999 Cadilliac blocking two lanes of traffic crossways in the middle of the road.
Witnesses told police the driver of the other car, a white Jeep Liberty had continued east on P Streets.
Officers found the Jeep and the driver less than a block away pulled into a driveway at Harlan's Automotive, unable to move.
Police said the Jeep hit a Mazda then the Cadillac before continuing on. Both vehicles were parked on the north side of the street when they were hit.
The owner of the Sedan DeVille, Darcel Hinds said she was walking back to the car when she saw all the police lights and wondered what happened. As she got closer, she realized it was an accident. Then, she realized it was her car in the roadway.
Hinds said in just a couple more days, she will have had the car one month. "I haven't even got license plates on it yet. This all is really going to mess me up."
Hinds says she wishes people who have been drinking would get a designated driver or find some other way to get around than hit someone or hurt someone.
"She shouldn't have been drinking and driving. It's the law."
A woman arrived at the crash scene and told 10/11 News, the driver of the Jeep had called her for a ride home.
According to Hinds, the driver of the Jeep has insurance and is going to jail on a couple of charges. Hinds should know what is going on with her car in a couple of days.
Hinds said, "She has insurance so I am okay but I don't know how long it will take."
Police were not able to confirm the identity of the driver or what charges she is facing.
