It might not seem like it on such a windy and cold day, but Lincoln is officially the happiest city in the country.
A recent Gallup wellness poll surveyed residents in 188 municipalities and the capital city came out on top.
The survey cited Lincoln's continued growth, including the expansion downtown and in the Haymarket.
Todd Ogden with the Downtown Lincoln Association says that development makes people feel like there's more opportunities, both for jobs and entertainment.
The survey also cited Lincoln's good access to basic necessities like clean air and water, healthcare and education.
Ogden says Lincoln has a small town feel with the amenities of a big city and that allows residents to connect to where they live and each other.
Nebraska came is as the 7th happiest state in the country with Hawaii taking top honors.
