New Year's is a special day for all of us- but for one Lincoln family, it was an extra special start to 2014.
The first baby of the year in Lincoln was born just after 3 a.m. Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center.
Adilyn Jean Galusha has changed the meaning of New Year's for her family.
"It'll be different celebrating New Year's from now on," said grandmother Lanette Kreifel.
Mom Skyler Novotny's due date was Jan. 9. She has been eagerly awaiting Adilyn's arrival.
"Nine months of waiting was enough. I was ready," she said.
But still, "I was shocked. Because I didn't think it was going to actually happen so soon, and so quick," Novotny added.
And besides just being the first grandchild on her mom's side, Adilyn shares a special bond with her grandmother.
"My mom when she heard the time she went and pulled out my birth certificate and said that I was born at 3:03 as well, so we have that in common," said Kreifel.
One of her cousins turns 26 on New Year's Day, as well.
As for the new family's plans for 2014, "just being the best parents we can to Adilyn and planning our wedding and having a lot of fun with her, watching her grow," said Novotny.
A little fun fact, Adilyn was the first baby of 2014 here in Lincoln by just 23 minutes. Bryan Health had a baby born at 3:26 a.m.
