Lincoln, NE-- UPDATE:
It was a year ago that Mikaelah Molifua was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer that affected her blood.
"It was kinda scary at first and then I kinda just dealt with it and just was just like I have to get through it one way or another," said Mikaelah.
At the same time, her dad had a brain aneurism, that caused more stress on the family.
"It was a lot going on in a short period of time," said her mother, Dani Molifua.
For a day, Make-a-Wish Nebraska helped relieve some stress.
"I got my wish was to go on a shopping spree spree and get clothes so I had enough for college," said Mikaelah.
She went all over town, shopping for clothes, and even had star treatment. Dani is proud of her young daughter.
"She is an inspiration not just for her peers but for adults," said Dani.
And Melissa Davis-Schmit, the Nebraska Make-a-Wish program director says that she couldn't have found a child that's more deserving.
Make-A-Wish is an incredible organization that grants wishes to children who have fallen ill. 10/11 is proud to be able to highlight the work that they do, and today's event is an important fundraiser.
From 6 a.m. until 6 p.m., KFRX's Matt McKay is riding on the Carousel for Care at the Gateway Mall. He's doing it to help raise funds so that more wishes can come true for area children.
10/11 is live at the mall all day to see how Matt fares on his all-day ride. Tune into 10/11 News at Noon and 5 for updates.
