The holidays are known as a time for giving, especially to those in need. But one man's generosity during a visit to the People's City Mission left the people he was helping stunned.
When Tom Proudfit showed up at the doors of the men staying at the People's City Mission he came bearing a large gift. Tom gave each of the 60 residents a 100 dollar bill - a Christmas present totaling $6,000 in all that he hopes will provide inspiration.
"Trying to help themselves and get out on their own and we decided that would be maybe a little bit of help and a little bit of encouragement to them," he said.
Tom's friend Sheila encouraged him to donate to the shelter knowing this act of kindness could be the first steps towards these men getting back out into society.
"I hope that they continue with the program and be able to advance and be more on their own," said Tom.
They hope that this generous gift is something these men can one day pay forward themselves.
"Someday down the road when they get on their feet they can help others," said Sheila.
For now, the shocked looks and bright smiles behind each door were a Christmas gift for Tom.
"Makes me feel really good that we can do just a little bit for them," said Tom.
