Man Sentenced for Possession Of Stolen Memorabilia

A Lincoln man has been sentenced to a year in jail for possession of stolen items including Husker memorabilia and a firearm.

Police arrested 21-year-old Terique Jackson after he was reported to be holding three Husker Championship rings, three watches and a .22 caliber handgun in a backpack.

LPD Officer Katie Flood says Jackson was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property and two misdemeanors after a confidential informant reported that Jackson attempted to sell some of the items which were reported stolen in March of 2012.

On Thursday, Jackson was sentenced to 360 days in Lancaster County Jail. Jackson will be eligible for release after serving 88 days, and will receive credit for 23 days already served.

Flood said the owner of the watches and rings, Bill Shepard, who worked for UNL's athletic department for more than 50 years, discovered the theft when he came home and found his place ransacked.

A total of 17 Husker Championship Rings valued at a total of $6,800, 14 Bowl Watches worth $300 a piece, along with shotguns and a rifle were reported missing by Shepard.

Police are still trying to recover the remainder of the items reported missing. Flood said those recovered from Jackson are still in police custody.
