Mayor Jay Vavricek is seeking letters of interest from citizens who wish to be considered to serve on the Grand Island City Council for Ward 1or Ward 2.
The current open position for Ward 2 was previously held by Scott Dugan. The Ward 1 position is anticipated to become vacant on Jan. 15, as City Council President Bob Niemann will be resigning and moving out of the Ward 1 boundaries.
Applicants must be a resident of the respective ward applied for and a registered voter. A map of the ward boundaries may be obtained on the city’s website by clicking on the link in the sidebar or by contacting City Clerk RaNae Edwards at email@example.com.
Eligible individuals who have the desire to serve are asked to submit a letter of interest to Mayor Vavricek by 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014. The letter of interest should include, but not limited to, the reasons for wanting to serve the community of Grand Island, as well as previous and current community involvement. Please indicate which vacancy is being applied for.
Letters of interest for either open position can be submitted to Mayor Vavricek by dropping off a letter at Grand Island City Hall, 100 E. First St., mailing it to city hall at P.O. Box 1968, Grand Island, NE 68802-1968, or emailing it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once applications have been received, Mayor Vavricek will announce a detailed process which will ensure a sound recommendation for council consideration for these two positions.
Annual compensation for council members is $7,200.
Mayor Vavricek said, "Both of these openings are for a three year term stretching to almost 2017 and therefore is a decision which requires thought and commitment. I look forward to exploring the interest of all applicants in serving the people of Grand Island."
