LINCOLN, Neb. -- A 45-year-old Lincoln man is facing a misdemeanor charge for an April crash that killed a newspaper carrier.

Lancaster County Sheriff's Office says John Norbert has been cited for misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide in the crash that killed 27-year-old Jessica Lyons.

Deputies say on April 14, Norbert was driving with two other passengers delivering newspapers near the 4600 block of Saltillo Rd.

Reports show that Norbert hit a patch of ice and the Jeep began to skid and spin before coming to a stop in a ditch. Lyons was thrown from the vehicle and died from her injuries.

Sheriff Terry Wagner said the Norbert has been cited with misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide because he was driving too fast for weather conditions.

Wagner said Norbert runs a newspaper delivery route. He was scheduled to have back surgery near the time of the accident and was training Lyons.

The Journal Star released the following statement in April in regards to the accident:
"We were deeply saddened to hear about the accident this morning. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families at this difficult time."
