North Platte, N.E.-- Finals for Miss Nebraska were held tonight in North Platte.
Nineteen girls competed for the title over the last three days.
The top 10 girls were selected tonight to go head to head in the final competition.
Of those ten, five were selected for an onstage question, we spoke to a judge who says Miss Nebraska should be more than just a great speaker.
“[She’s] somebody whose comfortable being around people and who enjoys that, being an awesome delegate for the state of Nebraska, Really promote her state and have a love for her state, someone poised, talented and beautiful it’s an easy job,” laughed Jennifer Timmons, one of the judges for Miss Nebraska 2014.
Only one can call herself Miss Nebraska and that person is Megan Swanson.
“Right away tomorrow they’ll hold a press conference, sign her contracts and jump right into appearances,” said Timmons.
Miss Nebraska’s responsibilities include meet and greets throughout the state and public speaking events.
The winner also will receive scholarship money along with other great prizes.
The next step for Megan Swanson is getting ready for Miss America.
“If she’s not to become Miss America, they’ll come back to the state of Nebraska and their year will be chock full of appearances a lot of businesses around the state. The majority of their appearances will be at schools across the state speaking to school age children on their platform issue,” said Timmons.
