A sex offender from Fairbury, accused of assaulting more children, has been captured in Arizona.
At approximately 10:36 a.m. 30-year-old Billy J. Barritt was taken into custody.
The Fairbury Police Department was notified early Thursday morning that Barritt was in a Bellemont, AZ truck stop.
Officers in Nebraska contacted the Cococino County Sheriff’s Department and confirmed through video surveillance that Barritt was at the truck stop, but they couldn't find him.
Throughout the morning, more reports were coming into the Fairbury Police Department on the possible whereabouts of Barritt.
Officers continued to update the Arizona law enforcement authorities with the information.
Finally, the Arizona Highway Patrol located Barritt’s vehicle westbound on Interstate 40, just inside of Mohave County.
The Highway Patrol stopped Barritt and took him into custody.
Barritt went missing last week from Fairbury. He has been charged on a warrant with first-degree sexual assault of a child and three counts of third-degree sexual assault of a child.
Police say Barritt sexually assaulted several children under the age of 10 for more than a year. Authorities say that when Barritt learned of the investigation, he left his home in Fairbury.
Barritt is currently on probation for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
