Monday Motivation: Manage Stress For Heart Health

Experts say that 9 out of 10 times, stress stems from circumstances that we have no control over. But we can control how we react and that reaction can affect your heart health.

"If we stay under that kind of stress, we will have organ damage," said Sharon Duffy, nurse and wellness expert with Madonna Proactive.

"Your blood pressure will go up. You'll have high cholesterol. It can affect diabetes. It can affect actually every system in your body," Duffy added.

Duffy is coaching the women participating in the American Heart Association's "Go Red Challenge".

Duffy says that it has been shown that people who take time to relax and lower stress after surgery, illness or injury tend to heal faster.
