North Platte Police are investigating a pickup versus bike accident that left a 6 year old injured.

At around 3:40 p.m. on March 17, an officer with the NPPD responded to an accident at King’s Court trailer park, 2420 W. 9th Street.

Officers tell 10/11 News that 25-year-old Zachary Schultz was driving a pickup southbound inside the trailer park when he saw a young boy riding his bike west towards his vehicle.

Schultz told police he attempted to accelerate to avoid the collision, but was unable to avoid the boy and as a result the bicycle struck the rear passenger side of the truck bed. According to police reports, Schultz stated the boy seemed unsteady on the bike and felt if he stopped; the child would have still collided with his pickup.

The 6 year old was taken to an hospital with serious injures.

The NPPD is uncertain regarding the condition of the boy at this time.
