It's not uncommon for fans to criticize coaches, but what happens when a coach criticizes its fans? Clearly in Nebraska, an uproar.
Phone lines were full Tuesday. Heated opinions, exchanged.
"The last 48 hours it's been crazy at Hail Varsity radio," Chris Schmidt, Hail Varsity radio host, said.
What Bo Pelini said two years ago is no longer a secret. While it is undoubtedly the talk around the state of Nebraska, it's also the subject of conversation around the country.
"It's not just a Nebraska story," Tom Dienhart, Big Ten Network senior writer, said, "but a national story given the fact the Cornhusker program is a national brand."
Dienhart said he understands Pelini's frustrations, but as a coach the mic is always hot.
"You can guarantee there have been hundreds of conversations between SID's and coaching staffs the last couple days on that very subject," Dienhart said.
For Husker fans, Pelini outbursts aren't anything new.
"I think that by the time you're Pelini's age you are who you are," Dienhart said. "Bo Pelini has been a successful head coach and he's gotten to this level because of who he is as a coach and what his personality is like. You get the raw, uncensored Bo Pelini 24/7."
Schmidt said there's only one way to leave this thing behind... win.
"Nebraska needs to have a good showing Saturday," Schmidt said. "If Nebraska goes into that Northwestern game 6-1 and gets into Michigan with one loss, then I think this thing is buried."
