OMAHA, Neb. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) has awarded $82,300 in wellness grants to nine Nebraska nonprofit organizations.

The grant money will be used for projects ranging from diabetes prevention to supporting an all-volunteer medical team.

BCBSNE’s wellness grant program has contributed $615,000 since 2008 to initiatives that improve the health of Nebraskans.

“We make the investment in these programs because we have seen how these communities have improved through hard work and dedication of all those involved,” said Rob Trebilcock, BCBSNE director of community engagement. “It’s great to see how a small investment can make such an impact and be sustained year over year.”

The recipients of the 2014 BCBSNE Wellness Grants are:

· David City - Genesis House – Smile Again

· Grand Island - Central Nebraska Council on Alcoholism and Addictions, Inc. – Building Assets Together

· Grand Island - Third City Community Clinic – Medical Home for the low income community

· Kearney - Kearney Family YMCA – Diabetes Prevention Program
· McCook – Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department – Community Wellness

· Norfolk – Northeast Nebraska Coalition for Suicide Education and Prevention, Inc. – Healthy Body, Healthy Minds

· Osceola - Annie Jeffrey Health Center – Fit and Healthy Kids
