The body of a North Bend man who disappeared while out hunting has been found in the Platte River.

The Colfax County Attorney's office says 68-year-old Leroy Bird was reported missing when he didn't return home Tuesday night. His family says he had been at a cabin near the Platte River outside of Rogers.

Searchers found Bird's body in the river near an overturned boat Wednesday morning. His hunting dog and gun were found about a mile downstream.

An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says there have now been 8 deaths on the state's waterways this year. Normally there are 5 deaths per year on Nebraska waterways.
