If you have a child with an autism spectrum disorder, a new autism bill has been proposed that would demand insurance companies in Nebraska pay for behavioral health treatment, or applied behavior analysis (ABA).
Senator Colby Coash presented the bill before a special committee Tuesday.
One family told 1011 News the such treatment costs are astronomical and even bankrupted her family.
The bill would also require insurance providers to pay as much as 70 thousand dollars a year for treatment, up until age 21.
One opponent said insurance mandates hurt small business.
It's not clear how the new Affordable Care Act will impact treatment for autism.
