Lincoln, NE-- The original Valentino's will close it's doors for good Sunday, and relocate to a building across the street.
The 35th and Holdrege location has been an icon in Lincoln since opening in 1957.
The structure is old and will be torn down. A multiple-use building will be put in its place.
General Manager Steve Deriese says it's a bitter-sweet time because he has so many fond memories of the building, but is he's excited for new building.
"When they [people] come to the new restaurant they're going
to be able to see us bake the pizza," said Deriese. "It's going to be open into the dinning room which is very unique."
It will be an old look, in a new building. Deriese says that layout is how it used to be when he worked at Valentino's in the 1980's and 1990's.
But memories go even further back. Steve Carsten says he's been going to the original location for more than 50 years, shortly after it opened.
"To tell you the truth I didn't like the Pizza," said Carsten. "I had never
had pizza before and I wasn't crazy about it the first time I came, but it grows on you and I over time I got addicted to Valentino's pizza."
The neon sign that sits in front of the original location will not be torn down with the building, instead it will move across the street to the new location.
