Overnight Fire Kills Bunnies, Fire Marshal Investigates

Several volunteer firefighters braved the frigid temperatures fighting a fire Saturday night.

Just after 10 p.m. Friday night, night crews from Southwest Rural Fire were called to 2950 Forestview Circle, near the north entrance of Pioneers Park in Lincoln.

Fire Chief Phil Nalley says an out building that held several rabbits was fully engulfed when they arrived. Additional crews and equipment were called in from Hickman and the Air Guard Fire Departments to help fight the flames.

Several bunnies were killed in the blaze, but some were saved in the fire that leveled the building. Nalley says the Nebraska State Fire Marshall's Office is investigating the cause.
