Passersby Save Red-Tailed Hawk

Updated: Wed 10:25 PM, Aug 01, 2012

Call it one lucky bird.

A Red-Tailed Hawk, injured while hunting for food, was saved by a kind group of passersby right outside our 1011 studios in Lincoln early Wednesday evening.

Animal control officers say the bird may have hit a car, while going after some prey.

In any event, some people just strolling by rushed to help the raptor, removing it from a ditch and letting it rest in the shade.

Soon animal control carefully placed the bird in a cage and carried it away to safety.

To see the bird face to beak, as it were, just watch Owen Jensen's report.
