The new pedestrian bridge leading to the Pinnacle Bank Arena open to the public Sunday morning. Residents around Lincoln say it couldn't have come sooner.
"We are so excited for the pedestrian bridge," said Lincoln Resident, Karen Rehm. "We have Men's Basketball tickets so we will be utilizing it to get back and forth, so we're very excited because it's connecting our new downtown arena area to the Saltdog area," said Rehm.
Jack Ehrke is a local bike rider and said he's been waiting for the new bridge to open for months.
"I've seen all these tweets and Facebook posts about it and I thought it'd be really cool to check it out," said Ehrke. "It gives really good views of the city that I've never really seen before."
Residents said it's not only providing views of Lincoln, but form and function as well.
"Accessibility is huge, and it does allow that connection between two different areas and where you can park," said Rehm.
Ehrke said it's a great way to reduce traffic in the area.
"Just having more access points to the arena and more places for people to park and still get to the arena without having to walk a mile is gonna be really nice."
While construction to the bridge continues, residents will be able to use the bridge during special events.
