Organizers at a shelter in Lincoln say they've seen random acts of kindness from strangers as a major winter storm hits the region.
Katie Nungesser of the People's City Mission in Lincoln says the shelter has received several calls from people asking to volunteer because they were sent home early from work. One woman came in with three loaves of bread she picked up with coupons from a local grocery store.
The shelter has about 300 beds, and it will be over capacity Thursday evening as the storm dumps several inches of snow in Lincoln and eastern Nebraska. Nungesser says people have been placed in the shelter's chapel, lounges, and even a kitchen nook.
She says, "When it gets like this, we just stuff every part of this building."
