A hit and run involving a fiber optic box is expected to interrupt service to many in the downtown area.

According to Lincoln Police Captain Jason Stille, about 2:30 Friday morning, officers were called to the 700 block of O Street for a reported hit and run accident.

Stille said officers found a utility box knocked over underneath the Harris overpass. Nearby was a damaged green Ford Ranger pickup that witnesses say was involved in the crash.

The witnesses tell 10/11 a number of men left the area on foot and police are looking for the owner of the truck.

The utility box is for fiber optic cable which serves the downtown Lincoln area. Crews were called to the scene and will make repairs as soon as possible, though some interruption to phone and Internet service is likely, while the repairs are made.
