Lincoln Police Captain Jason Stille said a 9-year-old suffered injuries to his hand from a dog bite while trying to defend his mother.
Officers were called to the 200 block of F Street about 8:45 p.m. Saturday, after receiving reports of a domestic assault
Stille said a 32-year-old woman was arguing with 41-year-old Cedric Fowler. Fowler then kicked her in the stomach, knocking her down a flight of stairs.
According to Stille, the woman's 9-year-old then jumped on Fowler who called his dog to attack the child.
The dog bit the boy on his hand.
When officers arrived, Fowler was nowhere around. Some time later, while officers were outside talking to the child, the child pointed to Fowler hiding nearby. Fowler then led officers on a short foot pursuit before he was taken into custody.
Fowler was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail for 2nd degree assault, felony child abuse and domestic assault.
Both the woman and child were treated at the scene.
Animal Control was called to the scene and took control of the animal.
