"It's kind of surreal. You only see this on Cops. You don't see this happening in your front yard." -- David Younger
Police have arrested a teenager involved in several hit and run crashes and a police pursuit.
Just before midnight Tuesday, Lincoln Police were called to the 1200 block of SW 10th Street.
Witness David Younger said he went outside after hearing a crash and spotted a green Ford Explorer across the street in the neighbor's driveway where it hit a car parked in that driveway. The Explorer backed up, knocking over the neighbor's mailbox too. The SUV then took off turning west on West A Street. Younger tried to follow the Explorer to get a license plate number, but could not catch up.
Younger said when an officer arrived about 20 minutes later to take the report, they heard a noise which was later determined to be a crash with a parked car one block to the west.
The upset victim of the parked Honda Accord told 10/11 he had just purchased the car on Monday. His car had been hit from behind and pushed against a tree.
Moments after hearing the crash, a green Ford Explorer drove up to where Younger and the officer were standing.
Younger said both right side tires were flat. When the officer attempted to stop him, he drove off, again, turning west on West A Street. The officer got into his car and began a chase.
"It's kind of surreal. You only see this on Cops. You don't see this happening in your front yard," said Younger.
Captain Michon Morrow said the SUV was driving slowly along 1300 block of West A as the officer chased it. The driver jumped out of the rolling vehicle and the SUV ended up going off the road, down an embankment and came to rest against a dentist's office building,
The driver, a 14-year old, was found hiding under a car in the 1300 block or West Washington.
The Explorer was owned by the legal guardian of the youth.
A clerk at the Casey's General Store near SW 6th & West A said, they had customers come in and tell them a green SUV nearly hit them while driving on A Street earlier in the night. A vehicle matching the description drove through their parking lot, missing the driveway entrance and tore up some sod.
Police have arrested the teen for felony fleeing to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, failure to comply and a number of hit and runs.
