Officer Greg Hamill, a twelve year veteran of the Omaha Police Department, passed away on Wednesday from complications of H1N1.

H1N1 is a strain of the influenza virus. Officials at Methodist Health System described Hamill's illness as a contagious respiratory disease that causes symptoms similar to those of the seasonal influenza in people.

According to a Methodist spokesperson, Hamill is survived by his wife, Vanessa, and their two children. The family has been grateful for the outpouring of support and prayers during this difficult time.

Officer Hamill was an organ donor.

A memorial fund has been set up at the Omaha Police Credit Union for Officer Hamill in care of Vanessa Hamill.
