Police Officer Injured in Line of Duty

An Omaha police officer was rushed to a hospital after being injured in the line of duty. It happened Thursday afternoon around 2 p.m. near 50th & I Streets in Omaha.

The police cruiser was blocking the street trying to protect two motorists who were involved in a crash.

While the officer was investigating the accident his cruiser was hit by a westbound Chevy Tahoe, pushing the cruiser under a garbage truck.

First responders had to rescue the officer with the jaws of life. The police officer was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.
