Preparing for Winter Driving Conditions

When there's snow in the forecast, many of us check our cars to make sure we have a shovel, blanket, maybe some sand or kitty litter, but there is one thing some people forget about, and that's car care.

Terry Wolfgang of Wolfgang automotive says it's not only important to keep winter gear handy and drive defensively, but also to keep your car in proper working order.

He said "It's just making sure you've got good tread on your tires because when you react you want those tires to be able to grip and stop you. And you want to make sure your brakes are able to work properly too. The cars are designed to be safe, but if you don't keep them that way, then you can't expect them to work right."

Wolfgang says a full inspection is ideal, but if you don't have the time or money, at the very least it's important to check your tire pressure and tread as well as your windshield wiper blades.

He adds that most auto repair shops provide a free safety inspection with a standard oil change.
