The farm bill that's been signed into law today by President Barack Obama expands federal crop insurance, and it ends direct government payments that go to farmers whether or not they produce anything.
But the bulk of the nearly $100 billion a year cost of the measure goes toward the food stamp program, which helps one in seven Americans.
The bill eventually passed with support from Democratic and Republican lawmakers from farming states.
