Police want you looking out for peddlers going door-to-door selling you scams.
Before you hand over that check, Lincoln Police want you to ask the sales person for either a solicitors permit or a peddler's permit.
It is against the law in Lincoln to go door to door without one.
The permit shows you the business or organization is legitimate.
"If they don't have one, a lot of times, a real common thing is oh, my boss has it in the car.
If that's the case, say, I can't do business with you until I see the permit. Close the door and call the police," Lincoln Police Officer Erin Spilker said.
Spilker said to make sure you call with a suspect description, like what they are wearing, which direction they are walking or what kind of car they drove off in.
