A speeding pickup on Highway 92 in Butler County led to a pursuit and the arrest of an impaired driver.
Around 11:30 a.m., Monday, a Nebraska State Patrol trooper clocked a 1993 GMC Sierra pickup traveling 95mph in a 65 mph zone, westbound on Highway 92, near the Saunders/Butler County line. According to NSP, the trooper attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The pickup, which did not have license plates failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.
The pursuit traveled west on Highway 92 into Butler County. NSP says the driver of the pickup avoided spike strips deployed by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. Just east of Rising City, the driver stopped the pickup prior to running over a 2nd set of spike strips.
The driver, 44-year-old Bruce Banahan, Lincoln, was taken into custody and lodged in the Butler County Jail on charges to include 2nd offense driving under the influence, felony flight to avoid arrest, speeding and open container.
NSP says the pursuit traveled approximately 14 miles with speeds ranging from 40 to more than 100 mph. The Nebraska State Patrol was assisted by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
