The results are in for the "You Drink, You Drive, You Lose" holiday campaign.
The Grand Island Police Department said they made 31 DUI arrests between December 14, 2012 and New Year's Day 2013. That includes 11 arrests made by 14 officers who focused specifically on drunk drivers. Their overtime was sponsored by a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
"Luckily, we have this grant because this is 11 people that realistically probably would not have been stopped or arrested for DUI/DWI, and you know, how many of them may have been involved in a more serious traffic accident? You never know," said Officer Butch Hurst of the GIPD.
The Nebraska State Patrol also received a grant to help enforcement against drunk driving during the same time period. They made 101 DWI arrests statewide.
