The Salvation Army in Lincoln announced that it has reached its 2012 annual Christmas goal.

The goal of $551,000 has been reached with a total of $595,735.10 being raised to date. Of that amount the organization raised a record total of $264,040.40 through the familiar Red Kettles places in 35 locations throughout Lincoln.

Cpt. Jamie Pennington noted that donations the last three days prior to Christmas are what put the organization up over its goal. Cpt. noted the hard efforts and generosity of the Lincoln community once again in supporting the organization.

“I especially want to thank all of the volunteer bell ringers who stood the kettles in snow, cold weather and even the nice days. We also wish to thank the area merchants who allow us to place the kettles in front of their stores.” Noted, Cpt. Jamie.

In addition to providing Christmas toys and food baskets to area families and children this past Christmas the funds raised at Christmas constitute about half of the agency’s budget for the entire year. Once again Lincolnites have stepped up to the plate thinking of others this Christmas season.

The Salvation Army is a United Way agency.
