School Called Off; Right Call or Not?

With LPS calling off school Wednesday January 30th, because of the inclement weather, some are wondering whether the district could have "delayed" starts, as some other districts do, rather than wiping out the whole day.

The short answer to that: no.

LPS says they never have delayed starts.

One reason, according to a letter 1011 News received from LPS, "We have a pretty complex bus system and delaying school creates a host of transportation issues."

Another reason: "Delaying the start also presents challenges for many of our families who take their children to school."

Meanwhile, what did parents think of the decision to call off school Wednesday?

Some said it was a good idea to not have school, while others thought the streets were fine to travel on.
