The Merrick County Attorney has released the names of the two drivers killed on Tuesday, July 3, when three semi trailer trucks collided on U.S. Highway 30 west of Silver Creek. Autopsies were conducted to positively identify both drivers.
Strahinja Krupnikovic, 25, of Harwood Heights, Ill., the driver of the westbound semi and Thomas House, 35, of Fremont, the driver of the second eastbound semi were killed in the crash. Both Krupnikovic and House died at the scene.
Investigators say the crash occurred just after 1:30 a.m., Tuesday when the westbound semi driven by Krupnikovic crossed the center line and clipped an eastbound semi. The westbound semi, then struck a second eastbound semi driven by House head-on. Both trucks burst into flames.
The driver of the first eastbound semi, James T. Ganser, 40, Long Pine, was not injured.
A portion of U.S. Highway 30 four miles west of Silver Creek was closed for nearly 12 hours. The crash remains under investigation.
