"The people of Nebraska are generous and hard working and it truly has been a privilege to have served them and represented them." - Sen. Ben Nelson, outgoing Democratic Senator from Nebraska
Outgoing Democratic Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska said goodbye Wednesday in a speech in Washington, DC.
"The people of Nebraska are generous and hard working and it truly has been a privilege to have served them and represented them."
He also thanked his family. The life of a politician is hardly one of privacy. "Public service requires our families to sacrifice, sacrifice privacy..."
To many, Nelson's name will be connected to the passage of the controversial Federal Healthcare Law, known as ObamaCare.
But Nelson said he's proudest of his work years ago as a member of the Gang of 14, which dealt with judicial nominations and filibusters.
Nelson, who did not run for re-election, and once served as governor of Nebraska as well, said he hopes Congress and the nation will have a stronger desire to find solutions for the country's greatest challenges.
