Senator to Decide on Entering Governor Race
A Nebraska lawmaker who is leaning toward a run for governor says he will decide whether to enter the 2014 race by the end of February.
Sen. Charlie Janssen of Fremont told The Associated Press that he doesn't want to prolong his announcement much longer, but he is still consulting with possible campaign staff and trying to gauge his public support.
Janssen, a Republican, is known for his strong opposition to illegal immigration.
He has pushed for a requirement that voters show identification at polling places, and is also trying to end state-funded prenatal care coverage for illegal immigrants.
Another Republican, Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy, has confirmed that he is running.
Former Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood entered the race briefly, but withdrew after his wife's cancer diagnosis.
