September Could Become Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month

Thursday Senator Danielle Conrad introduced a bill to secure 1.8 million dollars for pediatric cancer research.

Friday, Senator Bill Avery introduced a resolution that would officially make September 2014 Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.

Senator Avery received the same email that Conrad did. He said he knows this resolution can't cure pediatric cancer, the leading cause of disease related death among kids, but it's a start.

"It certainly will make us more aware and it will provide us with a vehicle for doing more things in the future to bring awareness to pediatric cancer," he said.

He said he also supports Senator Conrad's bill to fund pediatric cancer research- he believes that will go through as a part of a larger budget bill.

The resolution will sit until January 15th before it is adopted by being listed on the official records of the senate.
