WISNER, Neb. (AP) Authorities have established an emergency shelter for residents who lost their homes after the tornadoes in and around Pilger, in northeast Nebraska.
Wisner-Pilger Public Schools Superintendent Chad Boyer said about a dozen people had arrived at the shelter Monday night, and officials were expecting more. Boyer says the shelter at Wisner-Pilger High School will remain open as long as needed to provide food, water, showers and cots.
Pilger has been evacuated, and the Nebraska State Patrol has closed all roads into the northeast Nebraska town that was devastated by the storm.
Authorities say many residents have made their own arrangements to stay with friends and relatives.
