Six municipal water tanks in Nebraska are among the nearly 200 entries competing in the annual Tank of the Year contest sponsored by Tnemec Company, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance coatings.
Nominated this year from Nebraska are water tanks in Bertrand, Creighton, Dorchester, Lincoln, Lyman and Randolph. Finalists will be selected by the public who can vote for their choice online at http://tnemec.hostedlandingpage.com/tankoftheyear/.
Local government members, water project participants, engineers, applicators, and private citizens can visit the polling website and cast their ballot for their favorite tank. This gives small town tanks and metropolitan tanks an equal chance of winning and allows participants the opportunity to campaign for their hometown water tower.
Voting will be open through Friday, Oct. 18. During this time, voters can go to the website, pick their favorite tank, and then track the results. Each person can only vote one time, but will be able to see who the front-runners are, at any time, when they revisit the site.
Once the ballots have been closed, the 12 tanks with the highest number of votes will each be assigned a featured month in Tnemec's 2014 water tank calendar. From those top 12 tanks, the official winner of Tank of the Year will also be awarded and placed in the January page of the calendar.
All votes must be in by Oct. 18. After this time has passed, Tnemec will notify the public of the 12 semi-finalists and choose the official Tank of the Year. The winner will be announced in early November on Tnemec.com and calendars will be made available by December.
The Tnemec Tank of the Year competition has gained popularity in the industry since its inception in 2006. The contest has drawn media attention from local and national television networks and print magazines. Tanks from each year's competition are featured in the company's annual water tank wall calendar.
