Lincoln Police have cited five people for soliciting without a permit.
According to Captain Michon Morrow, around 9:30 p.m. Monday, a resident near SW 12th and W. Van Dorn Streets called police about people going door to door.
Morrow says officers contacted a van and cited all five of the people inside for soliciting without a permit.
"The people cited come from all over the country to work for these types of companies. The ones we cited were from Saint Louis, Westlake, Louisanna, Omaha, Mayfield, Ohio and Portland, Oregon. The group was going door to door for Advantage Cleaning Products. They were selling soap."
Morrow said residents are encouraged to ask these types of solicitors for their permit, which they should be carrying anytime they are knocking at someones door. The permit includes information about what the seller can do including times they are allowed to work.
If they can not produce a permit, Morrow says residents should send them on their way and call police with a description of the person.
