The newest member of the Nebraska State Patrol received his badge Monday at the Nebraska State Fair.
Trooper Buck L. Up will be the NSP's new mascot.
The patrol says a grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation helped their foundation pay for the $9,000 mascot.
Officials say Trooper Buck will help them remind people to use their seatbelts and practice safe driving habits during what's become a very deadly year on Nebraska roads.
"Really Trooper Buck is going to connect with folks of all ages, from the very young to our most senior citizens and so I think he'll do a great job at that," says Colonel David Sankey. "We'll get him out to community events and football games on Friday nights and those kinds of things."
Over 100 names were submitted for the new mascot. A staff member at Troop C in Grand Island says her kids came up with "Buck L. Up."
