A statue of the University of Nebraska legend, Bob Devaney, was unveiled outside Memorial Stadium's East Stadium entrance on Friday afternoon.
The university is paying tribute to the man who was behind Nebraska's back-to back national championships in the 70's and
also captured eight conference championships.
But that's not all. Bob Devaney led the Husker team to Nebraska's first bowl game. Before Devaney took over, the University of Nebraska had only three winning teams in 21 seasons. During Devaney's years as a coach and athletic director, attendance at Memorial Stadium doubled.
Devaney also wanted to cement his team's bright future, which is why he specifically chose Tom Osbourne to be his successor as head coach.
University leaders agreed that with the new East Stadium addition and the upcoming game, the timing of the reveal was impeccable .
The life-sized bronze statue is a token of remembrance for his family, friends and other husker loyals, who decades later still remember his legendary contributions.
